MDSCC Powerhouse Control Modernization
Mission‑critical powerhouse modernization (government): PRP dual‑star, automatic black‑start, priority load‑shed/add; 94 IEDs integrated.
Modernized the obsolete, centralized powerhouse controls at the Madrid Deep Space Communications Complex (MDSCC) across seven medium-voltage switchboards with multiple single points of failure (SPOFs). Replaced legacy hardware with a fully redundant architecture integrating six genset control units, automated failure recovery, and advanced SCADA visibility.
Result: High-availability power controls free of SPOFs, full remote monitoring, enhanced fault diagnostics; distributed relay network of 94 IEDs (SEL-751, SEL-700G, RTAC-3530, SEL-2440, Woodward LS-6, easYgen 3400, CAT EMCP 4.2) supporting a total capacity > 10 MVA.
DSCC Legacy FactoryTalk SE Server Upgrade
MV switchgear protection refresh: SEL‑751 retrofit; GPS/IRIG‑B SOE, redundant RTAC gateways.
Executed a zero-downtime migration from an unsupported SCADA server to a virtualized, redundant FactoryTalk SE environment, eliminating a major failure point and reducing latency.
Result: High availability, simplified lifecycle management, and long-term supportability for a mission-critical power system at Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex (GDSCC).
Chiller Pump VFD Upgrade
Combustible‑dust baghouse modernization (aluminum): Fike detection/isolation, FilterSense monitoring, Wonderware HMI updates.
Resolved chronic maintenance issues on redundant chiller pumps at a mission-critical data center by upgrading motor drives to modern VFDs and integrating control into the existing automation system. Facility technicians were trained and documentation delivered to support uninterrupted operation.
Result: Higher availability, reduced energy use, and improved process-control reliability.
